About us

With two chess players there is a match at some point. With two boxers there is a fight at some point. With chess boxers it is quite the same: the fight comes...

Iepe Rubingh (1974-2020)

Iepe Rubingh founded the world's first chess boxing club. In the birth year of the Chess Boxing Club Berlin, the performance artist from Rotterdam became the first world champion of the hybrid sport in 2003. The event took place at the legendary music venue Paradiso in Amsterdam. Shortly after, Rubingh founded the World Chess Boxing Organization. He became the first president of the global federation and expanded the sport to Europe, America, Russia, and Asia.

Our Trainers

Eduardo Crespo (boxing trainer) comes from Cuba, and boxed a lot there during his time in the army, in order to be able to escape from the everyday military life there from time to time. So he has combat experience. At the same time, he played a lot of basketball. This means that he uses a lot of feints in boxing sparring, or hits without looking first (in basketball terms: "no-look-pass"). If you like to dance while boxing, come to Edu! Cuba's boxing tradition lives on with Eduardo in our club.

Alina Rath the reigning Amateur Chess Box World Champion (2019, 2022). But she was also German Champion in blitz chess in 2010. She takes over the chess training on Friday.

Arik Braun (chess trainer) is a chess grandmaster (GM) and U18 world youth chess champion. And because he doesn't look like a chess player at all, he is allowed to be a chess trainer with us. Arik comes from Southern Germany, and easily plays simultaneous chess against all 50 club members at once - and he wins all games - always. And afterwards he can remember every single move (of every game). Arik has already had a big chess boxing match, which he won.

Reza (Boxing Trainer) has been with the club since 2013 and has proven himself to be a reliable trainer and organizer. He helps members with their technique, takes care of everything related to the equipment, and ensures that everything runs smoothly. Reza is always there for those who need him, whether it's for training questions or practical matters. His dedication and experience make him an important part of our team.

Ole Marg (Box trainer) has been our boxing coach at Chess Boxing Club Berlin since 2018. He holds a B-license in competitive sports. In addition, Ole takes care of the boxing exchange program between Germany and Cuba. This way, the German style reaches overseas, and the Cuban style comes to Europe.
